Sharks are some of the oldest creatures on Earth, and they have outlasted many species that have come and gone over the eons. Incredibly, sharks have been swimming in the oceans for over 400 million years—longer than trees have existed! To put that into perspective, trees as we know them today only appeared about 350 million years ago.
Sharks first appeared during the Devonian period, which is often called the "Age of Fishes.
